Safe Environment & Volunteering

events

In order to volunteer for CYO-related activities, please ensure that you have completed the appropriate forms and clearance checks that can be found below. Thank you.

The Value of Giving Time & Talent

Parents are the cornerstone of the St. Joseph School community.  We see parents as the primary educators of their children and we join with you in an important partnership.  As volunteers, you are strengthening your commitment to the St. Joseph Parish Stewardship principles by the sharing of your time and talent as the most authentic response to Christ’s call to discipleship.  The sharing that you do, either at home or here at school, contributes to each student’s educational experience and is a powerful example to your own children about how we can work to use God’s blessings in our lives.

Volunteer Clearances

St. Joseph CYO runs smoothly with the stewardship service of so many volunteers.  In order to insure the safety of all our children, we ask that every volunteer is in compliance with our safe environment requirements.

If you plan to volunteer, please review the requirements below:

If you are currently a volunteer and are not sure if your clearances are expired, please email Roe DeRitis at roed@stjosephrc.org.

Safe Environment Clearances

As of July 1, 2015, there are new clearances that need to be completed by volunteers.

Volunteers must have all necessary clearances on file at the parish office before they begin.  The Archdiocese’s Protecting God’s Children Safe Environment Training, and the online Mandated Reporter training must be completed within 90 days of the start date. Copies of certificates and acknowledgments of trainings must be on file at the parish office also. The Mandated Reporter training must be done through the Archdiocesan website; no other training will be accepted.

1) PA criminal and child abuse clearances must be renewed every 5 years (we previously renewed every 3 years)

2) Anyone who has not resided in PA for the last 10 years must have FBI fingerprint clearance

3) All clearances must be completed before any service begins (used to require criminal only before service)

We have updated the our policies to comply with these PA law changes as well as requiring the Archdiocese trainings are required before service begins.

As part of the new law, all volunteer clearances are now free to process (employees still pay).
