The St. Joseph School Advantage

events

St. Joseph School provides a Catholic education and environment intended to make your child's faith living, conscious and active.

As part of our educational program, St. Joseph School strives to develop the spiritual, academic, physical, personal and social well-being of each child in a Christ-centered environment.

What St. Joseph School Provides

We are proud to be able to provide three sessions of Pre-Kindergarten:

– Three-Year-Old Session: two-day AM
– Four-Year-Old Sessions: three-day AM OR five-day PM

We also offer two options for Kindergarten, full or half-day, and three classrooms each in Grades 1 – 8. All classrooms in Kindergarten through Grade 8 average between 20 and 28 students.

Our school houses 28 classrooms, an Honors Math room, a computer lab, a science lab, a library, a music room, a band room, an art room, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a Pre-K playground, and a recess yard.

St. Joseph School students have access to the following technology: the Internet, desktop computers, wireless tablets, and interactive whiteboards.  Spanish is provided to students in Grades 5 – 8.

Students in Grades 6 – 8 are provided with a middle school environment, which includes lockers and the changing of classes.  Students who successfully complete the course of study at St. Joseph School are well prepared for academic success in high school and beyond.

Our graduates typically choose to attend Bishop Shanahan High School; Downingtown East and West High Schools; the Downingtown STEM Academy; Coatesville Area High School; Devon Prep; Malvern Prep; and Villa Maria Academy.

The Advantage

Our school has 32 faculty members, many with advanced degrees.  Instructional aides assist in Pre-K through Grade 3.  Limited small group instruction for students who are in need of academic support is provided by the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

The Terra Nova National Achievement test is administered annually in the spring to our students in Grades K – 7.  Our Terra Nova testing scores are consistent with local, Archdiocesan, and national scores.

All the Provisions You Have Come to Expect

Bus transportation is provided by the school district in which our students reside. Presently, St. Joseph receives services from Downingtown, Coatesville, Twin Valley, Owen J. Roberts, Unionville and West Chester school districts. Each of these districts provides one-way service only for half-day kindergarten students.

AM students may ride the bus to school, but homebound transportation is the responsibility of the parents. PM students my ride the bus home, but must be brought to school through the arrangement of parents.

A vendor-provided hot lunch is available most days throughout the school year.  Monthly forms must be submitted by the designated deadline for your child to receive a hot lunch.

Continuing to Learn Outside the Classroom

Our after school program,’CARES’ (Children Are Receiving Extended Services), runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. No before school services are provided.

Other after school activities include Band, Chorus, Bricks 4 Kidz (Legos), Student Council, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little Flowers and CYO-sponsored sports.  In 2014, we  added a Drama program to the after school offerings.

Throughout the year our students demonstrate St. Joseph School’s commitment to our parish’s Stewardship program by participating in variety of community-based and student council-coordinated service activities. Our students are encouraged to begin a life-long pattern of giving by giving of their time, talent and treasures in a variety of projects including food drives, the Advent Giving Tree, performances for senior citizens, visits to St. Martha’s Manor, cards for servicemen and clergy, and various fundraising activities.
